Our Seven Guitars took place in the original setting of the Pittsburgh Hill District in the 1940s. All of the music in the show was either composed or arranged by the sound designer. The vocals were provided by the cast members, and we brought in studio musicians for the guitar and harmonica parts. The music is influenced by blues, jazz, and gospel music coming out of the area in that time period. It also has roots in other forms of music, such as Haitian or Delta Blues, depending on the background of each character.
